I’ve Already Had an Abortion and Don’t Want Another One. What Are My Options?

Abortion is not an easy decision; if you have previously experienced pregnancy termination, you likely already understand the physical and emotional toll the procedure takes. Choosing to avoid a second abortion is common and valid.

Both alternatives to abortion involve carrying your pregnancy to term. At the Women’s Resource Center of Hancock County, we understand that this choice is deeply personal, and we’re here to support you every step of the way, regardless of your chosen path.

Adoption

Adoption today  looks different than in the past.. Women today can choose the parents they want for their babies and determine how much or how little communication to have with them. When considering adoption, learn about the three different types of adoption you can choose from:

  • Open adoption- Birth mothers who place their babies in an open adoption can choose to communicate openly with their child and the adoptive family they have chosen. The birth mother and the adoptive parents will work together to devise a communication plan. Open adoption allows a birth mother to interact with her child and watch them grow.
  • Closed adoption- In a closed adoption, the birth mother’s records are sealed. Her identity remains confidential. There is no communication between the birth mother and the adoptive parents.
  • Semi-open adoption- In this kind of adoption, communication between the birth mother and the adoptive family occurs through a third party, usually an adoption attorney or agency.
